Fire Fighter Professional Qualification Program

Emergency Rescue Response Services Inc. is proud to offer the NFPA Standard 1001 Fire Fighter Professional Qualification. The program curriculum exceeds the requirement set out by the NFPA, and includes more practice runs and other hands-on-skill building.

The program is offered twice a year at ERRS Inc. in a full-time 12 week block and is scheduled to allow students to complete the Emergency Medical Responder and the Primary Care Paramedic programs.

The program is divided into two blocks. Students will first be taught the necessary courses in Winnipeg and will complete the evaluation process in Vermillion Alberta at fire etc. Students will stay at the Lakeland College Residence in Vermilion, Alberta during the evaluation process where they will complete their certificate program.

Upon the successful completion of the Fire Fighter Professional Qualification Program students will be eligible for both IFSAC and ProBoard certification through fire etc. This qualification also forms the prerequisite for entry to other NFPA professional standards training.

Accredited Training:
fire etc. courses are taught to the standards of recognized national and international accrediting agencies and regulatory bodies, reflecting the integrity and high quality of our training.

An Integrated Approach to Training

At fire etc. no skill is taught in isolation. Courses contain an appropriate balance of theoretical and practical, hands on content and are structured so that each new skill builds upon those previously acquired. Meteorological, topographical, and man-made variables are added to ensure realistic training scenarios. As much as possible training is integrated to maximize the efficiency of a variety of preparedness and response agencies – police, security, medical, public works, and fire services. The training environment is one of teamwork and instructors are more than willing to provide extra assistance to ensure that skills are well learned.

Our facilitation team is committed in offering the top quality services that meet the needs of our clients and are carefully selected by ERRS Inc. and assessed by fire etc. Lakeland College, in Vermilion, Alberta. Our facilitation teams are selected for a combination of technical skill, practical background and teaching experience and ability. All instructors for the Evaluation Process at fire etc. in Vermilion, are selected by fire etc. Lakeland College. All instructors are certified to NFPA Standard 1041 – Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications, and most hold additional related certification.

Credentials
Graduates will be awarded: • NFPA 472 Dangerous Goods First Responder-Awareness and Operations Levels • NFPA 1001 Fire Fighter Professional Qualifications Levels I and II • NFPA 1002 Pump Operator In addition, graduates qualify for certification for fire etc. with both Proboard and IFSAC.

Program Dates
Applications are accepted year-round. As the program may be oversubscribed due to high demands, applications may be placed on a wait list for the next available program start date.

Course Locations
All Theory courses will be held at ERRS Inc. 401- 250 McDermot Ave. Practical Courses will be held within the Province of Manitoba and will be specified by ERRS Inc. At the commencement of the program.

The Evaluation Process which constitutes the last 4 weeks of the Program will be held in Vermilion, Alberta.

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum age 18
  • Canadian Citizen or Landed Immigrant
  • Grade 12, according to Canadian Provincial Standards, GED or equivalent.
  • Valid Manitoba Class 4 Driver’s License. (Driver’s Abstract required).
  • Airbrake Endorsement

  • A current Level C Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate and Standard First Aid.
  • Students registering for the PCP require an Emergency Medical Responder Certificate.
  • Provide documentation of the following immunization or laboratory evidence of immunization for: Red Rubeola (measles), Rubella (German measles), Varicella (chicken pox), tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, screened for Hepatitis C. tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, screened for Hepatitis C. (forms available with admissions)
  • ERRS physical standards / medical evaluation clearance form.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check.
  • Child Abuse Registry.
  • Medical examination clearance form for physical fitness test.
  • Current vision standard: For acuity not less than 20/40 binocular, corrected with contact lenses or spectacles. For acuity not less than 20/100 binocular for wearers of hard contacts or spectacles. Colour perception – must have ability to use imaging devices.
  • Hearing: Normal unaided thresholds no greater than 30db in each ear at 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz



Steps to Apply


1.    Complete and submit an application form or call 204-946-5100.
2.    Include all necessary documentation as outlined under Admission Requirements.
3.    Include the $100 non-refundable application fee. You may pay by cheque, Visa, MasterCard, or cash. Do not send cash via mail. The application fee is payable once during the academic year in which you are applying and is non-refundable. If you change your choice of start date for the same academic year no additional fee is required.
4.    Arrange for an official high school transcript to be sent directly to ERRS.Inc. 401-250 McDermot ave. Wpg, .Mb. R3B 0S5 from the issuing authority.


Acceptance will be delayed if you fail to provide all necessary information listed in the Admission Requirement and the application form. It is your responsibility to ensure that ERRS Inc. receives all necessary documents.

Notification of Acceptance

Applicants will be notified in writing of their acceptance into the program by ERRS Inc. Please contact ERRS Inc. at 204-946-5100 if your address has changed.

Program Fees
A $100 non-refundable application fee must be submitted with the Application for Admission. Students must complete the ERRS physical standards / medical evaluation clearance form.

Program fees for the NFPA are $8,760 + GST. The Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) program fees are $7,900.00 + GST. On acceptance, a non-refundable deposit of $1500.00 must be received no later than 60 days prior to program commencement. This deposit will be applied toward the total fees.

The balance of fees is due and payable no later than 30 days prior to program commencement. Fees cover tuition, comprehensive and program fees.

A student accepted within 30 days of program commencement must submit full payment within five working days of acceptance notification.

If a withdrawal occurs more than 30 days prior to program commencement, 100% refund of fees paid, with the exclusion of the non-refundable application fee and deposit fee, is available.

No refund is available after the start of a program.

Program Description

NFPA 1001 Level I
The basic level course provides students with the opportunity to develop the skills required to function as an integral member of the fire fighting team under direct supervision in hostile environments. The skills taught are the minimum requirement for a career or volunteer fire fighter whose duties involve primarily structural fire fighting.

NFPA 1001 Level II
This course build on the knowledge gained in level I and equips the student to function as an integral member of a team of equally or less experienced fire fighters under general supervision. When engaged in hazardous activities, a person at this level of training maintains direct communications with a supervisor. As well as further knowledge of structural fire fighting, this course also covers basic vehicle extrication and rescue techniques.

Certification
Modules delivered by ERRS Inc. and at the fire etc. campus are packaged in the following manner:

Series – a grouping of modules offered in a weekly (typically Monday-Friday) time frame

A fire etc. certificate will be issued on completion of a course or full series of modules, a full NFPA standard, or a level within a standard. Certificates are not issued for completion of individual modules.

A student can apply for IFSAC/ProBoard certification upon completion of an NFPA level. Forms are available from the fire etc. Office if the Registrar at Lakeland College in Vermilion, Alberta and on their website fire-etc.ca . These certificates are issued quarterly. Academic Policies Fire Programs

Attendance:
Classes commence daily at 0800 hrs. Classes may be held on statutory holidays. Stated class hours are based on maximum class size. When enrollment is less than maximum, the class duration may be shorter. Examination Students may write a course examination only after successful completion of the practical components, where applicable. All written examination requires a minimum passing score of 70%.

Examination Rewrite:
A student failing a written examination with a score of 60-69% will be allowed to re-sit the test. The application to re-sit must be made within 60 days of release of the test scores. The re-sit must be completed within 60 days of acceptance of the application.

Student Appeal Process:
A student who wishes to appeal a score received on an examination or course can obtain an appeal form from the ERRS. Inc.’s office. The completed form must be returned to ERRS Inc.’s Director’s office within 21 calendar days of the release of test scores. ERRS Inc.’s Director will respond in writing to the student within 30 calendar days.

If the student is not satisfied with the response provided by ERRS Inc.’s Director, a further appeal process is permitted within 14 calendar days of the date of the Director’s letter.
